BTEC Science encourages development of scientific vocational skills. There are no external examinations, instead students build up a portfolio of 17 assignments. These are mainly investigative or practically based.

A BTEC in science is equivelent to 2 GCSE's.

There are 4 qualification grades:

Pass - equivelent to 2 grade C's at GCSE
Merit - equivelent to 2 grade B's at GCSE
Destinction - equivelent to 2 grade A's at GCSE
Destinction* - equivelent to 2 grade A*'s at GCSE

Prgression:

This qualification allows progression to an A-level in Applied Science, BTEC and other post-16 science and science-related programmes: BTEC Nationals in Applied Science; Beauty Therapy Sciences; Sports and Exercise Science etc.
