Instrumental Lessons

Learning to play a musical instrument is a fantastic thing. It has so many benefits and develops a vast array of skills.

Instrumental lessons are delivered in partnership with North Lincolnshire Music Service. We work closely with the music service to provide options which are affordable and useful for parents and students. And with this in mind there are different options available: one-to-one tuition, two-to-one, small group lessons, large group lessons and Vibes and Virtues. We are able to offer most instruments; Piano, Drum kit, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Violin, Cello, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Clarinet, Flute, Saxophone and students have 35 sessions available to them over the academic year.

Students who sign up will receive one-to-one or two-to-one tuition for 20 minutes per week during term time on their chosen instrument. And, for most instruments, with the exception of Drum kit and piano, the music service is able to loan instruments if needed for the duration of tuition and this is provided free of charge. These lessons take place during school hours and generally take place on the same day each week and wherever possible on a rotation so that students don’t miss out on the same lesson each week. During these lessons students can learn purely for the enjoyment and skill or they can seek something more tangible and pursue gaining grades – which are practical examinations and can add towards UCAS points for university in the future.

The small group tuition is a 30 minute session, consisting of a group of 4-6 students which will be more suited for students who are beginners; we do not recommend this for students who have been playing already for some time as we cannot guarantee you child will be grouped with children of a similar ability. And due to space and equipment, unfortunately we cannot offer this on Drum Kit, Piano/Keyboard, Guitar, Bass Guitar, Cello, Double Bass or Tuba. These are only available to sign up for at the beginning of the academic year only and only available on specific instruments. These are available to sign up for at the beginning of the academic year only and the running is subject to enough students signing up.

The large group tuition is a 30-minute session which will take place afterschool running from 3:10pm to 3:40pm and is in a group of around 10 students. These are available to sign up for at the beginning of the academic year only and only available on specific instruments, this session is also subject to enough students signing up.

“Vibes and Virtues” is an extremely exciting enrichment opportunity new this year is being made available for students who would like to learn to play an instrument and be in a band. We are launching a brand-new club run by the music service, Vibes & Virtues! A specialist teacher from the music service will be coming into school to deliver these hour-long sessions, teaching students how to play any of the following instruments piano/keyboard/guitar/bass/drums and voice in a band and will work with students to come up with repertoire that they would like to learn. Students get the best of both worlds with this opportunity as not only are the getting to work with and create their own band’s but they’re also getting specialist tuition from it too at a bargain price.

The cost for these varys slightly year on year but below please find the costs for the full academic year 25-26. Payments are usually requested upfront for the full year, if payment in full  by the given deadline is an issue please do get in touch, we can discuss this. For this year once again we are pleased to offer a discount for Pupil Premium students, who are eligible for one-third off the total cost of tuition we are able to use Pupil Premium Funding to cover 1/3 of the cost of their instrumental lessons. We will check your child’s Pupil Premium status and assign the correct payment amount via your Arbor account. If you have any queries about the Pupil Premium, please contact the Finance Office.

When students sign up for lessons, they also gain access to the wealth of opportunities that the music service provides alongside their teaching and their teachers will speak to students individually about the opportunities which are relevant to them.
